Calligraphy - the Artist
Masanobu Hoshikawa is a native of Shinjo, Yamagata, Japan. From early youth, he studied to become proficient in the script, form and significance of ancient oriental calligraphy, Sho. He is a graduate of Hosei Graduate School in Tokyo. While there and later at the University of Chicago as a graduate student, he wrote several articles for Historical Journals especially on themes relating to Japanese and Oriental culture, its art forms, and ancient calligraphy. His works have been exhibited during “Japan Days” at the Field Museum of Natural History – Chicago; during several exhibits at the Council General of Japan Exhibit Hall, Chicago; during the Annual Ginza Festival, Midwest Buddhist Temple, Chicago, “Japan Days” annual Festival at Chicago Botanic Gardens, Glencoe, Illinois; At Hoy Poloi Galleries in Chicago, and at its Walt Disney Studios in Anaheim and Orlando. Hoshikawa has given his life to Sho. He is a native of Japan and a Master in the Art of Sho. Until now, Hoshikawa San’s art has only been available to those privileged few who have happened upon his live shows. Now his original art work may be purchased by the general public. Next >
